The Mountain Community of Frignano

The Mountain Community of Frignano

The Mountain Community of Frignano includes 10 municipalities of the Modena Apennines: Pavullo nel Frignano (chief town), Fanano, Fiumalbo, Lama Mocogno, Montecreto, Pievepèlago, Polinago, Riolunato, Serramazzoni and Sestola.

The Mountain Community covers 689 square kilometres stretching from the first hills up to the Tosco-Emiliano ridge. In such a large and varied territory the coordination, promotion and management activity of the Mountain Community is essential. The economic development activities in the Frignano area are well distributed and diversified taking into consideration the local characteristics. Agriculture, craftsmanship, forestation, livestock breeding, meat transformation and the production of parmesan cheese are the activities which have always been present in this area; today they are supported by small and medium industries and by a growing tertiary sector. The Frignano area boasts a great trade and tourism tradition thanks to the good road network and its rich historical, environmental, and sporting value. The protection and promotion of the natural environment, already active in the past, has now developed thanks to the creation of the Parco Regionale dell'Alto Appennino Modenese, where the Frignano territory is the protagonist. The Frignano Mountain Community with its interesting historical background respects contemporary dynamics and is moving towards the future in pursuit of a correct balance between the development of its territory and the preservation of its rich historical and natural heritage.
